If you are using MetaTrader 4 (MT4) or MetaTrader 5 (MT5), one of the first features you’ll notice is the Market Watch window. This is a very important tool for traders.
What is Market Watch?
The Market Watch window shows a list of all the trading instruments available on your platform – such as currency pairs, gold, oil, crypto, stocks, and more.
You can view:
- The Bid and Ask prices (real-time)
- The spread (difference between bid and ask)
- The time of the last price update
- Right-click to open charts, place trades, or see details
Where to Find It?
You can find the Market Watch panel on the left side of your MT4 or MT5 platform.
If it’s not visible, simply press Ctrl+M or go to View > Market Watch.

What Can You Do in Market Watch?
- See Live Prices: Monitor the market in real-time.
- Add or Hide Instruments: Right-click and select “Symbols” to manage which assets you want to see.
- Open Charts: Right-click on any instrument and open a new chart.
- Place Trades: One-click trading is also available for fast action.
MT4 vs MT5 Market Watch
Both platforms have a similar layout, but MT5 may offer more details like Depth of Market (DOM), trading sessions, and additional tools depending on your broker.
Final Words
The Market Watch is your quick-access tool for tracking prices and entering trades fast. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, this panel helps you stay connected with the markets at all times.
